TAJ Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives

Known for its pristine white sand beaches, limpid turquoise waters, blue lagoons, amazing underwater world and extensive reefs ( #nofilterneeded ), Maldives is an obvious choice for the holiday of a lifetime.

The whole of last year I was obsessing over Maldives and lusting to travel and experience this romantic getaway and had been pestering my otherwise reluctant husband. To my delight, this wanderlust dream came true this year as a pre anniversary trip and I was ecstatic beyond my belief.

We booked our flights via Fly Dubai Business Class ( Yes! there was absolutely no compromise on the luxury part of this travel ), since there was no direct flight from Oman and the journey was extremely comfortable in spite of the long layovers. We travelled with another close couple friend of ours which made the trip even more enjoyable and cray-cray.

So well, it was a very short four days holiday, of which three days were spent at the magnificent Taj Exotica Resort & Spa Maldives. We spent the first day at Male City and explored the place as much as we possibly could.

Located on the Emboodhu Finolhu Island amidst one of the largest lagoons in Maldives, lies the Taj Exotica Resort & Spa. An advantage of the Taj Exotica is its proximity to the Male Airport and the shuttle speedboat ride takes only 20 minutes to reach this idyllic resort. We were welcomed at the arrival jetty in traditional Maldivian style with seashell garlands and rose petals blowing our way just how a walk in paradise should feel like. This was followed by a photo at the dock.

We had booked our stay at the Deluxe Lagoon Villa with Pool ( because as per my belief settling for anything less is a crime when you visit the Taj Exotica Maldives! ). En route to our Villa which was situated at the far end of the island, we were given a tour of the property which included the Restaurants, Spa, Pool, Gymnasium and the lovely vast stretch of white sandy beach. After a short five minute ride, we reached an elliptical shaped jetty built on stilts in the lagoon housing the Deluxe Lagoon Villas with Pool, and the Award Winning Presidential Villa Suite which is claimed to be the most beautiful place on earth (Source: Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives). This postcard-perfect sight of the villas set delicately over the lagoon blew our mind. Our check-in was carried out within the Villa itself by a personally appointed butler who was very courteous and ensured our stay was luxurious and hassle free.

The 1,011 square feet Deluxe Lagoon Villa, inspired by the local Maldivian culture is impressively spacious and beautifully decorated in earthy tropical tones with high wooden ceiling that enhances its interiors. Furnished with double sinks and equipped with refreshing Molton Brown bath amenities, the private bathroom leads directly to the deck through an opaque glass door. It also includes a rain shower and bathtub with stunning panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, and is what one calls “bath with a view!”. The bed provides unobstructed views of the deck and the azure ocean through end to end glass doors. Waking up to this view was a dream come true. Each of these stand alone villas features a private deck with lounge chairs, daybeds on two levels, a ladder and set of stairs leading directly into the lagoon. The highlight of the villa was the freshwater infinity plunge pool. Surely there was no shortage of drop dead gorgeous ocean views from this room.

The three days went by in exploring the property, lounging by and relaxing in the Infinity pools and the beach, lazing in a hammock or the swing over the clear blue waters, snorkelling ( the snorkelling equipment is provided by the hotel FOC, which is an added bonus, kept in great condition), practising Yoga at sunrise, sting-ray feeding at sunsets, visiting the mandapa- marriage altar ( yes, in case you desire that unforgettable-magical destination wedding, Taj Exotica has it all!) and striking some extremely romantic poses at almost every possible opportunity. Also, not to forget, star gazing at night from the comfort of your private deck is an ethereal experience ( provided the sky is clear which we were lucky enough to witness ).

Taj Exotica Maldives houses four restaurants :

  • 24 Degrees
  • The Deep End
  • Equator Bar
  • Poolside Bar & Restaurant

24 degrees has an A’ la carte menu with a wide assortment of delicacies ranging from Pan-Asian cuisine to International favorites. The Deep End Restaurant is an exhilarating experience one must not miss during your stay at the Taj Exotica Maldives. It oozes of elegance and romance and serves Mediterranean cuisine. As the name suggests, it’s a seafood lovers galore. Both the restaurants offer a vast variety of delicious food. Breakfast is served at the 24 degrees and the beach views over breakfast are simply amazing. Our dining experience in the restaurants and the food was one of the best we’ve had so far. Everything was very well prepared and delightfully palatable.

The Equator bar serves drinks, cigars and shishas. It has a sunset patio where we enjoyed our drinks as we soaked in the fiery Maldivian sunsets over the Indian ocean. The sound of waves, the impeccable twilight hues and slight chill in the soaring sea breeze creates an unbelievable romantic bliss.

Also there is the Poolside Bar and Restaurant where one can soak up spectacular views of the infinity pool by the sea and grab a quick bite or relax with a chilled beer or refreshing drinks while taking a dip in pool or in the ocean.

After dark we would spend hours at a stretch at the restaurants filling up our hungry bellies like it was the end of the world, just because we were so inclined on tasting everything on their menu. The culinary journey at the Taj just like the beauty of Maldives is an ethereal experience.

The Infinity Pool at the Taj Maldives is set in an exotic fashion and one can spend the entire day here under the palm trees or basking on its deck. The Gym is very well equipped and the spa facilities at Jiva Spa are excellent. The Spa ensures to take impeccable care of you as it is well facilitated with amenities and has two separate Pavilions – Alepa Pavilion & Ayurveda Pavilion. You can choose from their exclusive range of signature spa experiences and indulge yourself in a Royal treatment.

Taj Exotica Maldives without a doubt provides unrivalled luxury and we were delighted by the service provided. The staff was endearing, friendly and ensured our stay was exceptional and perfect to the last detail. It was a surreal experience! Also, the picture that was taken upon our arrival was presented to us by the hotel upon checkout in a cute tropical album as a souvenir from the hotel. It was a lovely surprise and a memorable gesture at the end of our stay.

Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives is a tropical heaven one can only dream of and very few get to live it. I must confess I was blessed enough in this lifetime to travel to the ever so beautiful Maldives and stay at one of the finest hotels in the world. I was hopelessly in love with this place and was even willing to getting a job just so I could stay back ( so much so that even a job in the housekeeping department would do… LOL! ).

Well, it definitely was a haven of tranquility and a couples paradise!
