Bali is one of the many Indonesian Islands that’s known for its rich history and spectacular ancient temples, and hence is also known as “The Island of the Gods”. This tropical paradise is famous for its volcanic mountains, some of the finest beaches with exquisite underwater flora, natural beauty of the oceans and beautiful rice paddy fields. It is also popular for its yoga, meditation and wellness retreats and is a surfer’s paradise. Being nature lovers, my husband and I picked Bali as our second anniversary getaway and got a first hand experience of these beautiful sights. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind. I must also mention that for those who like partying, Seminyak is lively and filled with bars.
Ubud is a town located in the Uplands of Bali, popular for its traditional crafts and dance. The surrounding Ubud District’s rainforest and terraced rice paddies, dotted with Hindu temples and shrines, are among Bali’s most prominent landscapes. Located just a 90-minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport lies the most enchanting resort, The Kayon Resort.
The Kayon Resort is a 5 star standalone property situated only ten minutes from Ubud Center and is perched on the Ubud Hill Side, surrounded by the holy Petanu River and lush tropical rainforest, that provide a peaceful and phenomenal vibe. Kayon means tree of life creations and secret that grows from earth towards heaven. The concept of the hotel is ideal for a romantic getaway, as well as for those seeking a healing and soothing experience.
Since my travel and holiday schedule is usually dependent on my husband’s work calendar, we were fortunate enough to get leave around our anniversary time. We wanted to stay at a property that was exclusive and one of the finest. After much research we found what we were looking for and booked our stay at The Kayon Resort. To our Delight, there could be no better place to celebrate our anniversary (14th November) than The Kayon Resort. Here, we were treated to a lovely welcome and some excellent hospitality.
We had booked the River Edge Pool Villa which was designed in contemporary Balinese style and included a private balcony and a terrace with a luxury infinity pool hanging along the river edge, surrounded by the lush emerald green forests and the waterfalls. The room was spacious and had a signature terrazzo bath tub and shower. The view of the forest from the bath tub and the pool was alleviating.
The highlight of our stay at the Kayon resort was the Serayu Spa. We chose the Serayu Signature Massage, a 90 minute couples special treatment. The invigorating spa treatment commenced with an aromatic foot bath to cleanse and prepare for an indulging massage. A 60 minute authentic Balinese massage revitalizes your senses and provides you with a renewed sense of energy. The 30 minute foot massage at the end of the treatment completes this experience and leaves your entire body feeling more rejuvenated. The nearby gushing waterfalls and river in the background provide a surreal experience while the spa treatment is on. The surroundings of the Spa and the ambiance created was very uplifting and one of the best spa experiences that we have witnessed.
The Resorts Restaurant, KE-PI-TU is set in the heart of the resort with 180 degree view over the pool and jungle landscape, creating a truly remarkable Ubud experience. The breakfast served was filling and included eggs, fruits, breads and assorted Juices. The lunch menu was light and healthy, with a mixture of sandwich and salads. High tea consisted of typical Bali delights that was served at the Canyon Jetty sun deck, overlooking the waterfall. The evening menu was a mixture of western, Asian and Signature KE-PI-TU cuisine with Balinese Royal setting. We thoroughly enjoyed every meal during our stay at the resort. Also, the floating Sky Roof Deck Dining Space along with the Kumbakarna statue provides a romantic dining venue (available on request).
The extensive infinity pool situated 10 meters above the valley provides a breath taking view over the rice fields and the surrounding tropical jungle. One can also relax by the pool side with a drink and soak in the Balinese sunshine.
Also, if you are tummy full with simply just unwinding at the resort, the Resort has a lot of activities lined up for the guests throughout the day. Some of the key activities include:
- Canyon Jetty
- Sunset Tour
- Top Yoga Pavillion
- Balinese Activities
- Kintamani – Active Volcano Tour
- Morning Walk of Village and Rice Fields
- Balinese Cooking Experience with Lunch
Our stay at The Kayon Resort was a feast for the body, mind and spirit. The light Gamelan music playing all over the property is incredibly relaxing and provides a much required disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the town. The location and facilities of the hotel along with the warm hospitality and delicious cuisine made it a memorable visit and I would highly recommend anyone visiting Ubud and looking for an ethereal experience, to stay at The Kayon Resort. Trust me, you would love it as much as we did!
